Suzy and Tom’s wedding in Tuscany – 22nd August 2015

Suzy and Tom are a lovely English couple based in Australia that decide to pronunce them vows in our romanic Church from the X century Pieve di Spaltenna.

The wedding reception was then held at the Castle with closest friend and relatives in an unique backgroud of the Chianti countryside sorrounded by olives trees and vineyards.

Here below you can read a little interview about them experience with us.

Where are you and your family from?

Both of us are British and our families live in England. We emigrated to Perth, Australia two and a half years ago and have lived there since.

How and where did you met for the first time?

We actually met in 2011 at Glastonbury festival in the UK! Tom lived in London and I (Suzy) lived in Liverpool which are about a 3 hour train journey apart so it was awhile before we saw each other again, but things were obviously meant to be :-)

Where and how did you got enganged?

We got engaged at Sandalford Winery in Perth, Australia. We went for a walk amongst the vines after lunch and Tom got down on one knee and of course I said yes!

Why have you decide to getting married in Tuscany?

This was an easy decision! We both absolutely love Italy and especially love Italian food and wine! A quick google led us to some beautiful photos of Tuscany and once we started imagining our wedding there, there was no going back.

With us having lots of family and friends living all over the world, a destination wedding made sense for us and we knew everyone would love an excuse for a holiday!

Why have you decide to choose Castello di Meleto as your wedding reception?

We looked at many wedding venues online all over Italy, but Meleto captured our hearts.

The photos were stunning, Katia (the wedding planner) was amazing and we immediately were able to envisage our wedding there.

The onsite accommodation was a massive bonus for us too.

Living so far away we weren’t able to view Meleto prior to the wedding which was rather nerve-racking!

However, when we arrived in Tuscany the week of the wedding and drove up to Meleto we couldn’t have been more excited or awestruck, it was simply incredible and we knew we’d made the perfect choice.

What have you been doing with your guest on the days before your wedding?

We arranged a welcome pizza party on the Thursday night in the picnic area which was perfect. It was a chance for everyone to get together and meet before the big day and also an opportunity for us to spend some time with our guests. The Friday was spent lounging by the pool with our guests and in the evening myself and Tom said our goodbyes as we wanted to stick with tradition and not see each other until the day of the wedding! We also had a BBQ the day after the wedding which was a great chance to nurse our hangovers, recap on an amazing day and say our goodbyes.

Which was the main “ theme” of the wedding?

We chose a rustic theme, incorporating lace and twine, and we kept this running throughout the whole wedding from our invitations, to the orders of service and the place settings.

The bridesmaids were in light dusty pink dresses and the boys in Navy Blue suits we had made in Vietnam.

The bouquets had a rustic ‘just picked from the garden’ style and the florist Annalisa of Marie Lou , along with Katia, did a fantastic job of recreating the look I imagined.

They combined dusty pink David Austin roses with creams, berries and wild flowers in purples and yellows. Along with the candles and rose petals around the venue and on the tables the overall effect was absolutely stunning.

Who did you choose as  best men and maid of honour?

I chose my big sister as my maid of honour. I was her chief bridesmaid at her wedding in 2011 and it was just perfect having her as mine this year.

Tom chose his 2 best friends who live in the UK, so it was very special having them share so closely in our special day.

Where the ceremony took place?

We had our ceremony at the Pieve di Santa Maria a Spaltenna , Meleto’s Catholic Church, which is about a 5 minute drive away from Meleto.

It was absolutely beautiful.

The church is so picturesque with a wonderful backdrop over the hills and inside had been decorated with flowers matching our bouquets.

What Tom thought when saw Suzy walking into the isle with her dad?

Suzy kept me waiting a while in the church, so the first thought was probably relief, which quickly gave way to amazement at just how beautiful and happy my bride looked.

I had to take a deep breath and just enjoy seeing Suzy coming down the aisle with her father.

It was a truly magical moment, that I will never forget.

Where did you arrange cocktail hour and dinner?

We had cocktail hour in the herb garden overlooking the vineyards and our guests could see us having some portrait photo’s taken which was great.

The dinner was on the front lawn which was lit with numerous candles and the tables were scattered with rose petals.

It was the perfect spot to watch the sun going down over dinner and the effect was so romantic.

How was the food? Who was your cater?

Our caterer was Lodovichi Ricevimenti and we don’t know what else to say except wow!

The food was exceptional from the cocktail reception to the four course dinner and then to the dessert buffet.

They constantly surprised even us with the delicious food and amazing cocktails and I have no doubt our guests will be talking about the food for many years to come!

Which was the higlight of the event?

It would be impossible to pick just one highlight as it was all so amazing!

Our guests were in awe of the venue and all had a fantastic time which was the most important thing to us.

What wonderful memories we have of a truly special day. It was just like a fairytale and it really was a dream come true.

Thank you Meleto and everyone that was a part of our day – you won’t ever be forgotten!
